President's Message

It's now been over six months since our Rotary world got turned on its head, and we canceled our April meetings. In May, we started meeting via Zoom; last week, we had our first monthly social, and we've still been able to raise money for local and international projects and complete a few projects along the way. This year has been more challenging than most, but as a Rotary club, we've risen to that challenge because that's what Rotarians do. It's pretty amazing what a small group of dedicated individuals can get done.

One incredible thing that is "this close" to being done is eradicating polio; only two countries left! October 24th is World Polio Day. District 6250 is trying to raise $35 from 1000 Rotary club members across the region during the month of October. Arien will be adding a line for this on your quarterly invoice, so please consider making a donation to help bring an end to this disabling disease. Again, for every dollar raised, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed to matching it with an additional two dollars, so your investment can go far! According to the Rotary Magazine this month, the polio eradication infrastructure that Rotary helped to create in the world has proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic, demonstrating Rotary's ability to react and adapt quickly.

Thank you to all who are selling roses and fall bouquets this year, and thank you to Naomi and Arien for doing such a great job organizing our biggest fundraiser of the year! There are some fall bouquets still available to sell, so let's keep going. COVID-19 has definitely created a more challenging environment for flower sales, but once again, Rotarians rise to the challenge!

Stay safe and well,
Ashley Dress
