"I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Friendships are some of the most wonderful things, and forming them seems to become more difficult as one gets older. When I was younger, it seemed that friends were easier to come by; they were my classmates, my fellow girl scouts, and my neighbors. Rotary is like the grown-up version of my elementary school classroom but with fewer runnier noses. We can all come together with the common goal of making the world and our community a little better. I am so delighted to welcome our newest Rotary friend, Randy Mell!

November is Rotary Foundation Month. If you haven't yet pledged to giving to the Foundation, please consider doing so. One of our speakers this month will talk more about what the Foundation does, but until then, some highlights:
  • In 1917, Rotary President Arch Klumph proposed an endowment for doing good. An initial donation of $26.50 by the Rotary Club of Kansas City, MO set the wheels in motion.
  • Paul Harris Fellow Recognition begins in 1957. (We may have an award to give out this Friday! smiley)
  • In 1979, Rotary began immunizing 6 million children in the Philippines against polio.
November always seems the appropriate time to think about what we're thankful for, which, this year, may seem more challenging than ever. But, challenging times can also put the good into stark relief. No matter the outcome of this year's election, I am grateful to live in a country where each person's vote counts and is counted. I am grateful that these past few months have forced me to slow down and appreciate my family even more. I am grateful that modern technology allows us to remain connected to one another. I continue to be grateful and inspired by the generous hearts and curious minds of the people in our club.

Yours in Rotary,
Ashley Dress

Interact Club's Polio Webinar
Please find information below from Rachel Zajicek regarding a webinar on polio:

I am Rachel Zajicek, Vice President of Lodi High School's Interact club. Our club has created a webinar on polio for all of the Interact clubs in District 6250. The leader for Rotary International has agreed to speak, along with our district chair for PolioPlus.

Polio still exists to this day in 2 countries, and Rotary International's primary goal is to eradicate polio. PolioPlus was started in 1985 and thanks to its dedication over 2.5 billion people have received the polio vaccine. Come and discover more about why we need to end polio while learning about Interact's history with polio.

The webinar will be held on November 12th at 2pm. The link below will take you to the webinar homepage where you can learn more about this event. Make sure that anyone who wants to attend the meeting registers prior to that day. The registration can also be found on the webinar home page.
